Edric Ong is based in Kuching, Sarawak his creations have been showcased in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Korea, India, Bangladesh, USA, UK and Europe. He is renowned for his fashion accessories e.g. the rattan "topi" tunjang’ pointed hats, and his specially designed necklaces made from indigenous materials. His latest "IKATWEED Collection 2022” consist of handwoven pua kumbu and silk ikat textiles of the Iban from Malaysian Borneo.
These textiles have been awarded UNESCO and World Crafts of Excellence Council Award. Edric is at the forefront of promoting this unique Iban Pua Kumbu. At KLAF2022, under the topic of Crafts &Architecture, Edric will be revealing his astounding "Tree of Life” Glow series.
An architect by training, he has been involved in designing several landmarks such as the Sarawak Cultural Village and the Kuching International Airport in Sarawak, East Malaysia. His interest in the heritage of his country has caused him to write several books eg. Sarawak Style, Pua-Kumbu-Iban Textiles; Woven Dreams-Ikat Textiles of Sarawak, just to name a few.
